Donald B. Abrams

SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL GEOLOGIST

Bio   |   Recent Projects

Donald has extensive experience in planning, evaluating and completing numerous environmental and geotechnical projects including Phase I & II Environmental Site Assessments (ASTM E-1527-00), hydrogeologic site / remedial studies ( industrial facilities, gasoline stations and landfills), building foundations and tunnels. Much of his extensive experience in western New York and across New York State and surrounding states is in engineering geology, environmental evaluations and geohydrological investigations.

Donald's experience includes evaluating hundreds of environmental and geotechnical studies for a variety of clients including private/industrial businesses, major credit unions, national and local banks/lending institutions, attorneys and developers. These geotechnical and environmental evaluations include numerous projects involving shallow/deep building foundations (piles, caissons, soil/rock anchors, etc.), cut-and-cover tunnels and rock tunnels, and environmental evaluations. These studies involve extensive field explorations, monitoring well installations, sampling and testing.

Donald supervised all field explorations and data acquisition during the design phase for the tunnel, cut-and-cover and surface sections of the Buffalo Light Rail Rapid Transit (LRRT) project in Buffalo, NY. Donald was also responsible for the planning, installation and data collection of the geotechnical instrumentation monitoring program during the construction of the line and station tunnel and cut-and-cover sections.

Environmental services have included planning, coordination and supervision of monitoring well installations as part of ongoing permit requirements for a Secure Chemical Residue Facility at a chemical/solid waste landfill in Niagara Falls, NY. Other projects include under- ground storage tank closures, soil/water sampling for analytical testing. Remediation projects included multi-phase extraction & treatment systems, groundwater pump/treat systems and conventional excavation and replacement techniques. As required, Donald also developed project specific Work Plans and site specific Health and Safety Plans for additional subsurface investigations, underground storage tank removal, soil remediation, ground water remediation and/or long term groundwater monitoring.
