Edward C. Gravelle, P.E.

VP, SENIOR GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER

Bio   |   Recent Projects

Mr. Gravelle has 15 years of geotechnical consulting experience in New York and the Northeast for a wide range of private, commercial, industrial and public sector projects. He has completed over 500 individual projects of various size and complexity, with geotechnical engineering budgets ranging from less than $1000 to more than $100,000. These projects generally entail the development and management of subsurface investigation and laboratory testing programs, preparation of geotechnical evaluations and recommendations, review of project plans and specifications, and follow-up construction inspections services.

Geotechnical evaluations have been completed by Mr. Gravelle for construction of residential, commercial, educational and industrial developments, office complexes, water and transmission towers, earth and concrete dams, landfills, roadways and bridges. In completing these projects, recommendations were prepared for general site development and earthwork, temporary and permanent groundwater control, shallow and deep foundations, floor slabs, rigid and flexible pavements, retaining walls, embankment and slope design and repair, excavation support systems, seismic design and liquefaction analysis.

The solutions recommended for various projects include conventional shallow spread foundations, mats, and deep pile foundation options consisting of driven piles (H, pipe and timber piles), drilled shafts and mini-piles, auger cast piles, and pressure injected footings. Mr. Gravelle has developed surcharge programs and other site improvements or design modifications for projects where settlement of foundations or floor slabs is a concern due to the presence of compressible soils.

Mr. Gravelle's field experience includes observation of building and pavement subgrades, installation and testing of deep foundations, fill placement and compaction, construction of earth slopes, and installation and testing of rock anchors. When unforeseen or unsuitable conditions are observed, Mr. Gravelle provides practical solutions to address the concerns raised by these conditions.
